A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF RHETORICAL STRUCTURE OF SEVERAL THESIS ABSTRACTS BY UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITAS BENGKULU

The abstract in every research paper has always served as an attention-grabber, either encouraging readers to continue reading the or discouraging them from doing so. This is aimed find most dominant move and step of thesis by undergraduate students identify any differences. used a mix method approach. design this descriptive, using quantitative well qualitative data. data was taken thirty abstracts Education faculty University Bengkulu who graduated between 2019 2022. Hyland’s five-move model will be for instrument. result showed that, majority moves that found were Move 2 (purpose) 100%, followed 3 (Method) 97%, 4 (Product) 97% 5 (Conclusion) 80%, while Step 1 (Stating purpose directly) 100%. Also, there no significant differences three study programs (English, Physic Guidance Counselling). Conclusion, simply following “Thesis Writing Guidelines” writing their abstracts. Therefore, it would better department charge revise guidelines use reference guidance writing.
